On Mothers’ Day, 14 May 2017, 1400 people participated in Kyle’s Cable Beach Walk, an annual fundraising walk from Gantheaume Point to Cable Beach in Broome. Phoenix Insurance Brokers’ Broome office was proud to be associated with the event and held a stall at the expo after the walk.
The Kyle Andrews Foundation Inc was set up in honour of a local Broome boy Kyle Andrews who lost his battle with leukaemia at 11 years of age. In 1998 Kyle had a dream of bringing some of his young friends from the oncology ward at Princess Margaret Hospital to Cable Beach, so that, in his words, "they might feel better".
In 1998, thanks to the generosity of the people of Broome, the first Kyle’s Camp was organised. It was such an enriching event for the children, their parents and carers, it was decided the camp and other associated events would be held annually.
Kyle’s Cable Beach Walk, now in its 20th year, is one of the Foundation’s fundraising events.
It attracted record participation numbers this year and raised an estimated $35,000.
